Grilled fish is one of the tastiest and healthiest dishes you can make at home. It uses very little oil, is full of flavor, and goes well with onion slices, lemon, and mint chutney. You do not need a barbecue grill to make this recipe. A simple grill pan, tawa, or oven is enough.
Ingredients
- 500 grams fish (Pomfret, Seer Fish, Tilapia, or any firm fish)

- Keep it aside for at least 30 minutes. For better taste, marinate for 2 hours in the refrigerator.
How to Grill the Fish
Using a Grill Pan or Tawa
- Heat a grill pan or non-stick tawa on medium flame.
- Brush a little oil on the pan.
- Place the marinated fish carefully.
- Cook for 5 to 7 minutes on one side.
- Flip gently and cook the other side for another 5 to 7 minutes.
- Brush a little oil if needed until both sides become golden brown with light grill marks.
Using an Oven
- Preheat the oven to 200°C.
- Place the fish on a baking tray lined with foil.
- Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, turning the fish once halfway through.
- For a slightly crispy finish, grill for the last 3 to 5 minutes.
Serving Suggestion
Serve the grilled fish hot with sliced onions, lemon wedges, mint chutney, and a fresh salad. It also tastes great with steamed rice or jeera rice.
Tips
- Use fresh fish for the best taste.
- Do not cook on high flame, as the outside may burn while the inside stays uncooked.
- Marinating for longer gives better flavor.
- Add a little butter before serving for a rich taste.
