Krishnashtami, also known as Sri Krishna Janmashtami, is celebrated with great devotion and happiness across India. Along with prayers and decorations, preparing special homemade dishes and offering them to Lord Krishna is an important part of the festival.
Among the simple and traditional offerings prepared during Krishnashtami, Atukulu Prasadam is a popular choice. Made with poha (flattened rice), milk, jaggery, banana and coconut, this prasadam is easy to prepare and has a delicious traditional taste.
Ingredients
Atukulu / Poha – 1 cup
Milk – 1 cup
Jaggery – ½ cup
Ripe banana – 1
Fresh grated coconut – 2 tablespoons
Ghee – 1 teaspoon
Cardamom powder – ¼ teaspoon
Cashews – 8 to 10
Raisins – 1 tablespoon
How to Make Atukulu Prasadam
First, wash the poha gently with clean water and drain it completely. Do not soak the poha for a long time, as it can become too soft.
Take a bowl and add milk and grated or powdered jaggery. Mix well until the jaggery dissolves completely.
Add the washed poha to the milk mixture and gently mix everything together.
Now cut the ripe banana into small pieces and add it to the poha. Add grated coconut and cardamom powder and mix well.
Heat a small pan and add one teaspoon of ghee. Add cashews and raisins and fry them lightly until they turn golden. Add them to the poha mixture and mix gently.
Your Krishnashtami Special Atukulu Prasadam is ready.
How to Offer It as Prasadam
After completing the Krishnashtami pooja, place the prepared Atukulu Prasadam in a clean bowl and offer it to Lord Krishna as naivedyam.
The combination of poha, milk, jaggery, banana and coconut gives this simple dish a naturally sweet and traditional taste.
Tips for Better Taste
For the best flavour, use fresh milk, good-quality jaggery and a well-ripened banana. Prepare the prasadam close to the time of offering so that the poha retains its texture.
You can also add a few chopped almonds or dry fruits if you prefer.
